Geneviève Cadieux-Langlois lives and works in Longueuil. She graduated with a degree in Visual and Media Arts from the UQAM and holds a teacher certificate. She is currently developing her practice in performance, installations, sculpture and printmaking. Her need for territorial belonging and to develop a taste for others has brought her to create artistic devices focused on sharing. She has taken part in several exhibitions and residencies in Canada and abroad (France, Poland), including more recently at Sagamie (Alma, QC), Imago (Moncton, N-B) and Zocalo (Longueuil, QC). For the past year she has been engaged in the coordination of the Zocalo centre for artists.

The work of Geneviève Cadieux-Langlois questions or exacerbates the social relationships she holds with those around her. She dislocates, reconstructs and incarnates her social behaviours, the group dynamics that she nourishes and the power relations that take shape. The idea is to make the effects and tensions experienced within her community visible. She constructs participatory or collaborative devices that capture reality to translate it into another form (costumes, banners, objects, performances). To her, “reality” designates the use of tangible objects and their physical representation, as well as the restitution of the actions she witnesses. She seeks to relive, alone or with others, real experiences to try to elaborate on their emotional complexity.
Geneviève Cadieux-Langlois designs each project according to the specific context in which it takes place; the location, the community involved and the present moment are elements that shape her reflective approach. Influenced by the ideologies of contextual art (Ardenne, 2009), she endeavours to create togetherness, to forge a bond with others, i.e. a bond of social strengthening, a type of political democracy revolving around images and gestures. She takes interest in the language of poetry, composing using the narrative of the body in space and awakening spaces abounding with collective or personal memories. This takes shape through photography, performance, textile printing, body moulding and writing. These are all ways to identify her world experiences and discover unexpected relationships born from these elements.
