What is artch?

Artch is an initiative whose mission is to identify, educate and disseminate the work of emerging Quebec artists in contemporary art. Art Souterrain, the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi Montréal Centre-Ville and Jack Marketing have come together to organize the first edition of Artch. 23 artists under the age of 35 were selected by a prestigious panel of judges from the field of visual arts, in collaboration with the Conseil des arts de Montréal.



The selection of emerging artists in contemporary art was performed by a prestigious panel of judges from the field of visual arts, in collaboration with the Conseil des arts de Montréal. The first contingent is made up of 23 artists, including UQAM and Concordia University graduates, as well as self-taught artists. Each artist selected will receive a $1,000 grant

Entrepreneurial art

Artch’s mandate is to help propel the career of the selected artists. A 52-hour high-level training allows them to become artistic entrepreneurs. Artists are mentored by specialists regarding themes such as career management, copyright in the visual arts, business model building, the importance of networking, demystifying the dynamics of the art markets, art project funding, outreach communications, staging, etc.


Public event

The Artch exhibition will be held outdoors at Dorchester Square, in the heart of downtown Montreal, from September 12th to September 15th, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 23 artists will exhibit their artwork in pop-up set-ups combining design, urbanism and architecture. There will be workshops, conferences and mediation.

Art Souterrain is the producer, designer and director of Artch. Its mandate is to make contemporary art available to the general public. In an effort to demystify artwork and artistic approaches, the organization organizes several annual projects aimed at educating the eye and creating a connection between artwork, artists and the public.

JACK Marketing acts as a creative agency offering a wide range of marketing and communications services, from strategy to brand development, design, web and events management. The JACK team is also involved in business strategy and event positioning. The agency helped to establish an important number of partnerships with major sponsors.

CJE Montréal Centre-Ville orchestrates the support and specialized business guidance for the artists selected for Artch. It guides young artists towards the achievement of their career projects, no matter the industry. Given its proximity to the birth place of initiatives in arts and culture, CJE Montréal Centre-Ville offers specialized support and guidance in career management in the cultural sector.
