In this workshop, Tong Zhou Lafrance opens up their photo-weaving process by inviting us to address themes central to their research, such as transnational adoption, immigration and travel. Taking the form of a workshop-discussion introducing the basics of photo weaving, Tong Zhou seeks to create new discussions and connections between different social issues. This activity is designed so that each participant can leave with a small 4″ x 6″ weaving of a photo that they will have brought on the day of the workshop.

\u7ae5\u5b99 Tong Zhou Lafrance is a multidisciplinary artist and collaborator adopted from China who works in Tiohti\u00e0:ke\/Mooniyang (Montreal) in Canada. In 2021, they obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction at Concordia University. Their current artistic practice revolves around the alteration of family and travel archives to bring forth their agency regarding their transnational migration. Their work has been shown in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City, namely during the Chinatown Biennial at Whippersnapper Gallery (2021), at FOFA Gallery (2022), at Rad Hourani Foundation Gallery (2021), at Eastern Block (2018) and many others. They are part of Artch\u2019s 5th edition and CR\u00c9ER DES PONTS\u2019 2nd edition both happening in Montreal. For an indefinite period of time, Tong Zhou\u2019s graduate studies at the China Academy of Art (\u4e2d\u56fd\u7f8e\u672f\u5b66\u9662) are entirely remote. In 2022, they co-founded the Soft Gong Collective, the first Francophone organization by and for Chinese Adoptees.<\/div>\n
