What defines a good pet? When observing the practices of Myriam Simard-Parent, Elisabeth Perrault and Catherine Boisvenue M\u00e9nard, my mind wanders to this question. Cats, dogs, birds, even hedgehogs are in our homes \u2013 they are our companions, part of those with whom we create strong bonds. It certainly wouldn\u2019t be as easy with a tarantula, a vulture or an electric eel. Indeed, less common creatures are harder to consider as pets, even more if they don’t have big tender eyes and soft furs \u2013 but instead spiny, slimy or not-so-petable bodies. What distinguishes the animals that we want to domesticate \u2013 often because they are cute, let’s face it \u2013 and those that we want to keep in \u201cthe wilderness\u201d is the starting point for this exhibition. The three artists presented manifest varying degrees of domestication from the generally familiar to the disconcerting; each artistic each artistic practice proposing a singular conception. The artists’ practices presented in Domestic Attitude concretize this plurality of proposals – training, learning, taming – and the nuances of actions that can evoke the\u00a0<\/span>domestic.<\/span><\/p>\n

CURATOR<\/p>\n

Julien St-George Tremblay considers aesthetic experience as a result of experience rather than intellectualization. Each viewer individually experiences an artistic project individually, then injects it with their personal history. According to St-Georges Tremblay his job as an art historian is to collect certain facts that can\u00a0 be related to these experiences. His field of research is ephemeral art in the public space. Whether the gesture is imperceptible or spectacular, he tries to grasp the succinct dialogue that this gesture engages with the space and those who inhabit it. He also looks for disappearances, collecting the traces that infiltrate physical space to form interstices in the spatial imagination of each person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Catherine Boisvenue M\u00e9nard est une artiste visuelle de Montr\u00e9al \/ Tiohti\u2019\u00e1ke. D\u00e9veloppant une pratique interdisciplinaire, elle navigue entre la peinture, la sculpture, l\u2019installation, les arts performatifs, la vid\u00e9o et la cr\u00e9ation num\u00e9rique. Par une expression fantasque et po\u00e9tique de notre relation au monde et \u00e0 la nature, son travail questionne et r\u00e9invente les limites de la corpor\u00e9it\u00e9.
