artch is thrilled to partner with the City of Laval and imagespassages to launch the very first call for projects for the Marcel-Saint-Pierre Artist-in-Residence Program: a unique residency program designed for emerging visual artists and collectives in the Laval area.

The residency

Located at 765 Rue des Patriotes in the Sainte-Rose neighborhood, this heritage fieldstone house dating from 1730 has been carefully restored to host artists in residence. The selected artist or collective will stay there for 8 weeks starting in October 2026, in an intimate setting overlooking the Mille Îles River, conducive to research, creation, and engagement with the community.

What the program includes

  • Accommodations and workspaces at the residency (8 weeks)
  • Artistic and logistical support throughout the stay
  • Two training sessions offered by artch, tailored to the artist’s needs (grant applications, copyright, art markets, communications)
  • 8 hours dedicated with the artch team for drafting and revising a grant application
  • 10 hours of mentoring with established professional artists from Laval
  • 10 hours of mentoring with an artist from Annecy
  • Cultural outreach activities
  • Public presentation of the artistic process and research at the end of the residency
  • Opus Card, access to municipal libraries, and internet connection
  • Project documentation by a professional photographer
  • 4-week artist residency in Annecy, France, at the imagespassages center (2027–2028 program)

Eligibility Requirements

The program is open to visual artists and collectives who:

  • are from, live, study, or work in the Laval area
  • have less than 10 years of professional experience
  • wish to develop or expand an artistic research project
  • are available on-site for the entire duration of the residency (October–November 2026)

The residency is open to people with disabilities, artists who are parents and wish to stay with their children, and artists who require special support. The City of Laval encourages applications from individuals from underrepresented groups or those facing social exclusion.
