Your artwork inventory with Airtable. An introduction to registrar practice for visual artists

Artch - Rayonner

Espace Transmission

5435 av. des Érables, Montréal, QC H2H 2E8

Where is that piece? Who did I sell it to? What were its exact dimensions again? If these questions sometimes send you digging through your emails, notebooks, or memories, this workshop is for you.

A registrar is the person who documents, organizes, and tracks the life of an artwork: its creation, dimensions, materials, condition, location, exhibitions, sales, and loans. This rigor, long reserved for museums and galleries, is also a valuable tool for artists: it simplifies grant applications, press kits, insurance, transactions, and, over the long term, the preservation of your work.

During this 1-hour workshop, you’ll discover the basics of registrar practice and learn how to create your own artwork inventory with Airtable, an accessible tool that’s free to start with and requires no technical knowledge. You’ll learn how to:
– structure a clear and complete artwork record (title, year, medium, dimensions, inventory number, photos, etc.);
– track the location and status of your works (in studio, on exhibition, on loan, sold);
– quickly find information using filters and custom views;
– build a simple system that you can keep updating over time.
