Tomorrow, Performance with Joliz De la Peña – (Affirmation)
Free event
The performance by artist Joliz De la Peña explores strong themes such as solidarity and resistance to imperialism through a poignant visual work. Her project involves creating a series of white flags cut to the standard dimensions of traditional flags. These flags will be intentionally soiled and stained, perhaps symbolizing the degradation or struggle they face.
Each flag will feature a word, carefully written in transparent wax, creating a fascinating visual effect. This technique allows the wax to preserve the original color of the fabric where the words appear, offering a strong contrast between the clean text and the soiled background. Once these flags are hung side by side, they form a complete statement, currently in development by the artist, likely centered on the notions of collective resistance against imperialism.
The use of wax as a means of visual resistance in this work emphasizes the duality of purity and corruption, maintaining the integrity of the text against the pollution of the surrounding environment. The result is both a powerful visual commentary and a reflection on political and social struggles.
